Develop an assessment that will determine a child’s physical, cognitive, or social emotional development at infancy. Specifically, you must address the following questions:
This assessment is designed for a child who is how old?
What type of development are you assessing (physical, cognitive, or social emotional)?
What is the specific goal of your assessment?
What materials will you need for this assessment? What type of space? What objects?
What, specifically, will you have the child do? What are the steps you will follow as you introduce the activity, engage the child in the activity, and evaluate the child’s ability to accomplish the activity?
What specific developmental concepts and/or theories are relevant? Describe those concepts and/or theories and clearly state what you expect the outcome of this activity to be (i.e., what should the child be able to do at this age?).
There is no minimum word requirement for this assignment, but an assessment that is less than 800 words (not including the questions) runs the risk of lacking sufficient detail. For detailed guidelines about how to complete this assignment, go to the Start Here module in the Content area, click Assignment Expectations, and choose Developmental Assessments. Please use this Developmental Assessment form to complete this assignment.
Similarly, keep in mind that your main discussion posts need to be at least 200 words. If this project requires 5 times the effort of a discussion that would mean it should be at least 1000 words. That is not required in order to have a strong assessment. But if you are writing less than about 800 words, you are likely not being adequately thorough or descriptive. Remember that that is 800 words that you wrote; it does not include the questions posed in the assignment.
A good way to ensure you are adequately descriptive is to write as though your reader is not familiar with the material and needs a thorough explanation in order to understand it. This is particularly necessary when you are discussing specific developmental concepts and theories in the Outcomes section.
Your grade will be impacted if you do not cite the source of your information. Citations will be most necessary in the Relevant Concepts and Anticipated Outcomes section of the assignment, although anywhere you use borrowed information, you need to cite it.
