Research Scenario
You are asked to design, run, and write up a quantitative study using ‘The Islands’ virtual population and SPSS statistics. The task involves:
1. Identifying an appropriate topic of study, that is rooted in relevant social scientific literature and feasible in The Islands.
2. Forming an overall research aim, operationalised as two research questions. Each research question will have a null and an alternate hypothesis.
3. Developing an appropriate research design, including sampling method.
4. Collecting, cleaning and (re)coding as necessary relevant data from a sample of the Islands population.
5. Producing in SPSS descriptive statistics, including charts, for three variables. This will include at least one continuous variable and at least one nominal-binary variable.
6. Producing in SPSS bivariate analysis of your three variables, using two distinct statistical tests. You will use either a test of association + comparison of means test, OR a correlation + comparison of means test.
7. Interpreting and presenting your findings as a written report.
