Instructions for this Discussion
Purpose
The assignment’s goal is to discuss with your classmates’ concepts and cases you have learned in Module 3 on justice, morality, and the law and to apply material learned in Module 3.
Task(s):
Answer the following discussion prompts in at least 350 words. You must post first before you can respond to your classmates.
What does justice mean to you? Is your definition similar to any parts discussed in the video lecture? Explain. Next, read the Kathryn Johnston case in Module 3. Was justice served for Mrs. Johnston? Why or why not (in your opinion)? As discussed in the video lecture, what were the negative consequences for blatantly violated procedures in the Johnston case?
What behavior do you consider to be offensive that you think should be against the law? Does it depend on location and circumstance? What behavior(s) do you consider to be offensive but you think should not be against the law? Watch The original Florida man case and discuss with the class what you think about this case. Do you find his decal offensive or not? Explain. Though his decal is protected by the 1st amendment, why do you think the officer was so determined to find a way to give a citation and/or arrest this man? What do you think you would have done if you were the officer in this case?
Watch both videos on the Brittany Maynard case. The Brittany Maynard Story and The Brittany Effect -Transforming the Death with Dignity Movement | Barbara Coombs Lee | TEDxMarin. What did you know about Death with Dignity Laws and how did you feel about them before this course? What are your views on Death with Dignity Laws now? Should we have the right to die when we wish if we are facing a detrimental terminal illness such as what Brittany Maynard was facing? Explain why or why not. Justify your response with what you have learned in this module.
