MEPA scholars, over the course of the last seven weeks, we have studied current education policy issues including CRT, Gender Issues in Schools, Banned Books/Curriculum, No Child Left Behind (2002-2015), and the ESSA -Every Student Succeeds Act. The purpose of this course was to connect scholars between education policy issues and how they impact the communities we live, particularly the schools. For your final paper assignment, you will construct a well-written paper that addresses the following:
How does the education policies listed above impact your community on a local and state level? Explain all five of them.
Identify the specific policies from
your school district (any of your choosing) relative to CRT, Common Core, Gender, NCLB, or ESSA? In this section follow up by addressing how national conversations have impacted decisions by the state legislature, governor, and the school board.
Provide an example (news story) of local or state decision making regarding a new or old education policy within the last five years.
Provide a personal assessment of the effectiveness (or lack thereof) regarding at least two of the policies discussed during this course.
Think of a policy you would like to see enacted in our schools or community. Using the “how a bill becomes a law” guide, describe what steps it would take to make your idea become law. Justify the policy you would like to see take effect, or change.
