The Christian theologian, Paul Knitter, embraces what he calls “double belonging.” He identifies as both a Christian and as a Buddhist. Knitter suggests that both Jesus the Buddha were awakened to the same ultimate reality. Christianity speaks of dying to the self. Buddhism advocates letting go of the self so as to eventually reach enlightenment/ Nirvana/ complete peace. So too, one might argue, Islam is a call to submit the self to the ultimate reality, that is, God.
Do you see it as viable for a Christian or a Muslim (choose either or refer to both) to incorporate aspects of Buddhism into their spirituality?
I have attached a document with class material needed and instructions.
