Assignment Question
Purpose: The purpose of this assignment are
1) to analyze a specific aspect of infant/toddler development utilizing empirical research studies;
2) to convey scientific information to a non-academic (parents or childcare workers) audience;
3) distinguish between credible sources using scientific research compared to internet sources.
Assignment: You will write a magazine article aimed at either parents who have a baby (or are expecting one) or early childhood education professionals. This paper will be written in the style of a magazine article, but the information you present should be supported by research and presented in a clear and understandable way that nonprofessionals can understand. You will choose ONE specific topic area from one of the three developmental domains (physical, cognitive, and social). For example, you could focus on attachment in social or language in cognitive, etc. For your topic, you will write a comprehensive description of the specific topic, the challenges associated with that domain of development and offer advice with support using empirical studies.
Requirements: The article should include the following Cover Page (do not do an APA cover page): Be creative in designing your magazine article. Picture Large and creative title name Your name References: You will include at least 5 references. At least three will be empirical articles (primary research sourced from library databases such as PsychInfo and PsychArticles, not meta-analyses or reviews) and at least two other sources (textbook: Gross, D. (2019).
Infancy: Development from birth to age 3. (3rd Ed). Rowan & Littlefield. and/or credible developmental or health websites) Introduction: Detailed introduction to the topic: The introduction should grab a reader’s attention and provide relevant statistics (use CDC, healthdata.gov, etc.) or other information on why the topic is important to read. Summary of Research: Your three empirical research studies fully summarized (who was studied, how were they studied, what were the outcomes) and integrated into the article that help your magazine reader better understand the importance of the topic.
Advice based on Research: Provide advice to your reader on the challenges/ issues related to the topic based on results from the studies you pulled with citations to support your ideas. APA Guidelines: Your citations in your paper and your reference page must be in APA style. You may choose to write your paper either in paper format (double spacing, etc.) or magazine format (columns/single spaced with additional pictures as you would see in a magazine). If you write in paper format your must follow APA style paper formatting for a student paper.
