Assignments. Instructions: Answer both of the following two questions. Each response should take the form of an essay of four paragraphs (a thesis and three body paragraphs). The word count for each response should be around 600-650 words. Your submission should be double-spaced, Times New Roman font, 12 pt. You need to make extensive use of the course materials in your two responses. Cite the course readings with the week it was assigned, the author name and page number in parentheses. Do not cite materials from outside of the course. Example of a proper citation for this assignment:
Edgar Snow’s interview with Mao reveals the communist leader’s faith in China’s rural population as revolutionary actors (Week 10, Snow, p. 38).
Question 1: Explain the Communist Revolution in China by using at least 2-3 of the following readings: Snow, Red Star over China (Week 10), Esherick (Week 10), Marriage Law / Hundred Flowers primary sources (Week 11), Liang Heng’s Son of the Revolution (Week 12), Honig and Hershatter (Week 13). How do these sources help us make sense of the rise of the Communist government in China, and what do they tell us about the long-term consequences of the Communist Revolution?
