Discuss about Professional and Technical Communication Final Project Create a portfolio revealing your ability to produce professional and technical communications. This portfolio must have TEN artifacts that follow the five characteristics of technical communication. Each artifact will be graded on its professional appearance, completeness, and description. Your portfolio must include: A Cover Page (Title of portfolio, name, section, date) A Table of Contents (List of entries with page numbers) 10 Artifacts (9 from class and 1 you may encounter in your major/profession) Written Description (of each artifact) Artifacts: The nine artifacts that should be included from class include: One PPT presentation (use a screen shot of slides) One Business Flyer One Cover Letter (or business letter) One Resume One LinkedIn Profile page One Professional Email One Blog One Set of Directions One Interoffice Memo The one artifact from your field may include: Order forms Bill of Sale Receipts Patient charts, orders, prescriptions Schematics/Designs/Plans Procedures/Policies ***Anything in your field that requires PROFESSIONAL COMMUNICATION FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE WITHIN A GIVEN CONTEXT would be considered a suitable artifact. Please consult the instructor if you have questions. Descriptions: Each artifact must be accompanied by bulleted description that includes: • Artifact # and title (use font sizing and style wisely) • Topic sentence naming the artifact (1 sentence) • Description of artifact’s key components (2-3 sentences) • Characteristics of technical writing included in artifact (2-3 sentences) • Potential uses of artifact in your field, major, or profession (1-2 sentences) *The descriptions can be included on the page with the artifact or be included on their own separate page* Your portfolio can be produced in any type of document that allows you to incorporate text and graphics. I recommend PowerPoint (see EXEMPLAR). The format must be compatible with the Dropbox in PLATO. Grading: Your project will be based on the grading rubric below. Please make sure all elements of the portfolio are included and complete before submission. Once the final portfolio is graded, no revisions will be made to the score because of neglect or error on the part of the student. Example Portfolio Page: Other Tips for Successful Portfolio Creation: • Select visually appealing template for document creation. • Use different font sizes to emphasize titles and subtitles. • Create a table of contents that is usable. • Size graphic and text to reduce excessive white space. • Be sure to address all four (4) components required in the description. • Save document as a PDF file before submission to avoid formatting issues. • Revise artifacts if necessary from the original grading. • Avoid 1st and 2nd person pronouns (I, my, you) in artifact descriptions. • Check for spelling and punctuations areas.
