Professional Poster Assignment Information Dissemination is crucial in sharing scholarly findings and changing/informing safe, quality clinical practice. Clinicians, as well as academics and researchers have a responsibility to share the effectiveness of their interventions and innovations. In addition to publishing manuscripts for dissemination, this valuable information can also be shared in the form of professional presentations. Often, presentations are conducted using PowerPoint or posters. The key is to share knowledge and ideas for the benefit of everyone. For this assignment, you will create a virtual (electronic) poster. Using the template provided to you (see attachment below), create an informative poster of your clinical topic of interest. Provide the following information: Introduce the problem/topic Background (lit review) of the problem/topic Significance (importance to society) of the problem/topic Implications to nursing practice (why do nurses need this information?) Recommendations for future inquiry/research/implementation There is no oral component to this presentation, thus you must ask yourself the following: Have I provided all the obvious information? Will a casual observer walk away understanding my major points after a quick perusal of my material? Have I developed a creative, engaging poster that will draw the viewer to my poster? Will a more careful reader learn enough to ask informed questions? What would I need to know if I were viewing this material for the first time? Clarity: People attending a poster session are typically free to move about from poster to poster and often must view a poster from a distance, making it difficult to read excessive text and small fonts. I recommend the following: Use large fonts and limit text to essential information. Use a creative title that encompasses the “gist” of the poster. Place your major points in the poster and have the nonessential, but interesting, sidelights for informal discussion. Keep content simple and communicate clearly. Consider whether the sequence of information is evident. Indicate the ordering of your material with numbers, letters, or arrows when necessary. Consider obvious headers/sub headers to break the content into sections. “A picture’s worth a thousand words.” Imaginative use of captioned illustrations, photographs, graphs, video (without sound), or other types of visually appealing material are extremely effective at communicating during a poster presentation. Images/tables and other graphics must be cited appropriately. Make your final conclusions or summary a concise statement of your most important findings. Content is important in this assignment, but the focus of grading is on creativity, visual appeal, formatting, and style. *Please proof your poster prior to submitting. You will use the Poster Template Provided as the foundation for your poster. Poster Template Please save your poster as a PDF before submission.
