The exact focus of this project can vary widely, and my advice is to write about places that really speak to what makes you who you are as a person. You could, for example, note a house that you grew up in, a park or sports complex where you used to spend a lot of time, your favorite place to run, fish, or meditate, or the place you go to look for UFOs and buried pirate’s gold, etc. You can take a less personal approach as well and recommend a set of related locales in the region. If you enjoy food, you might discuss the best restaurants. If you enjoy being outside, you could discuss the most relaxing parks or beaches. If you want to be a teacher, you might map the best schools. If you fish, you could reveal productive fishing spots in the region. If you go with this option, the locations need to be thematic (i.e., they can’t be random places, but should all be the same type of locations). This limitation only applies to this second version of the assignment. If you can find a way to intertwine the above options, that might be an ideal path. The most important thing is that your project has coherence and that you effectively support your text with relevant images and/or other resources. This project will reinforce the importance of effectively organizing an essay and provide an entry point into digital composition. You will also need to integrate at least two quotes from official resources related to these sites to help deepen your narrative. You should include Works Cited entries for these sources at the end of the project in the Works Cited page Project Structure When you create your project, you will compose an introduction in the description area, and you should think of each location as a body section of what is effectively a digital essay divided into different spaces. In these sections, you will want to use imagery to show (not tell) viewers about each place and what it means to you. Just as importantly, you will want to include images, hyperlinks, and/or videos in the same manner that you would visual details—as ways of further conveying important aspects of the location. My concern here is that the project helps you develop a more nuanced understanding of how projects are organized as well as how the concepts that we’ve explored in traditional essays (organization, coherence, support, etc.) carry over across all mediums of composition. You should use your conclusion to consider the broader implications of what the tour has covered and why these sorts of places are important, valuable, need to be preserved or visited, etc. and/or how the influence of these places will continue to resonate in your own life.
