Write an op-ed (an opinion essay that advocates for something; found in a newspaper or other publication) either supporting or opposing the passage and incorporation into the Constitution of the proposed Equal Rights Amendment. Any perspective is accepted as long as you support your opinion with credible, authoritative sources and facts. Some questions that might help you decide how you want to approach your op-ed: Do we need the ERA? How should the term “sex” be interpreted in the ERA? Is there a law or court case addressing equality of women’s equality that you could apply the ERA to? Do you want to address history, patterns, coverture in your op-ed? Cite any sources you use. Op-eds are not long; no longer than a page.
Write a letter to a legislator about a law or court case (including Supreme Court) addressing LGBTQ+ and non-binary gender (you may address something currently being considered or a previous law or court case). Any perspective is accepted as long as you support your opinion with credible, authoritative sources and facts. Some questions that might help you decide how you want to approach your letter: Why do you support or oppose the law or course case? Do you want to address cultural values, worldview? How does the law/case impacts cultural institutions such as economic, political, religion, and kinship? Cite your sources. Letters are not long; no longer than a page.
