Purpose: To learn to keep a dietary log; to determine the nutritional quality of your diet; to determine your average daily caloric intake; to determine necessary changes in eating habits.
Procedure:
Record your dietary intake for three days. Record intake for two weekdays and one weekend day.
Include the actual foods eaten and the amount. Be sure to include all drinks and any sauces, gravies, dressings, toppings, spreads, etc.
Choose a site to analyze your diet. Some options are: www.myfitnesspal.com, www.loseit.com, www.fatsecret.com, https://cronometer.com , or www.sparkpeople.com Enter your 3 days on one of the accounts. Most of the sites have an app you can also use.
Written Report: In 3 typed pages (double spaced, 12pt font) summarize and interpret your diet as recorded in this analysis. Explain any changes in your eating habits that may improve your diet. Comment on total caloric intake, specific nutrients and whether the days you surveyed are typical of your normal diet. Information from our class discussions, the chapters on nutrition from your text, and the reports from your diet analysis will help in your report.
Include a printout of your analysis.
