Overview
This assignment is aimed at helping you prepare to work with victims in the criminal justice system. This includes understanding how victims are selected and the different costs that are associated with victimization.
Preparation
Review Chapter 4 of your textbook, Introduction to Criminology: Theories, Methods, and Criminal Behavior to prepare for this assignment.
Scenario
You are working with a local court-based victim services organization to provide more information on how and why individuals could be the target of crimes in the local area. They are preparing for a training session and are seeking assistance in teaching their officers more about victimology. Your goal is to provide information in the form of FAQ sheet on victimology and trends of victimization.
Write a definition of victimology that includes at least three key elements.
Describe the costs of victimization.
Describe at least two costs of victimization. The costs should come from one or more of the following categories: economic, system cost, mental health consequences, and cost.
Define one of the three theories of victimization.
In your own words, define at least one of the three theories of victimization in 100 words or more.
Include at least two key elements of victimization.
Describe at least three trends of victimization.
Your description of trends must relate to race/ethnicity for this assignment.
