Basic Assignment Description
-You will create an argument in the field you have chosen that is directly related to the work you have chosen. This argument might be as simple as agreeing or disagreeing with the author of the assigned work, or it might be as complicated as arguing that the work can be applied in a specific way.
-Your audience will be other professionals in this field. Even so, do not assume common or shared knowledge. Carefully use the rhetorical modes from English 111 to shape your response to this audience.
-You must have at least five full pages of written content in the body of the essay. A page counts when it is 3/4 full (about to the 7″ mark on the ruler).
-Your work must be written in formal English.
-Your work must be grammatically correct and contain few or no spelling mistakes.
-You must use the required techniques from the module associated with your topic. For an example, see the one-paragraph description below. You are encouraged to use templates from They Say, I Say to help you with this part.
-Your work must include the basic elements of an essay (introduction, conclusion, body paragraphs, transitions, etc.) and must be more than five paragraphs.
-Your work must be formatted to the standards required by APA or MLA. You must use the formatting required by the subject area in which you are writing, e.g. – for the arts you will use MLA; for the social and natural sciences you will use APA. If using APA, your title page, abstract page, and references page do NOT count towards your five-page total. In MLA, your works cited page does NOT count towards your five-page total.
-You must have a minimum of three peer-reviewed, scholarly sources from NC Live. You may have additional resources (no wikis), but they do not count towards this total. Also, these sources must appear somewhere in the body of the essay. If your essay does not use them, you will receive no credit for this category and reduced points in other categories.
One-Paragraph Summary
Your final essay is on a topic of your choice that ties to your chosen field of study. Your final essay asks you to read/watch materials from one of the prompts provided, to do research through the library resources on that topic, to identify and use the appropriate citation method required for that subject area, and to create at least a five-page essay on that topic. You must also use techniques from the appropriate module to create your essay. For instance, if you choose the film prompt, you must view the selection of films and video essay as art and interpret the work in terms of a literary theory, e.g. – historical, biographical, etc.
