This assignment should be done in a small group (2 students) . Each group will select an organization to assess/evaluate. Please gather information by visiting the organization, conducting personal interviews with key personnel, and obtaining relevant printed material. The group will be responsible for writing a paper including the history (foundation) and vision/mission of the organization, organizational mandates, structure, leadership style, funding sources, clients served, stakeholders, and overall effectiveness as a social service agency. The students are expected to evaluate the agency as a social work practitioner. Class readings and discussion should be applied throughout the paper. The paper should be between 12-15 pages (including cover and reference pages) and written using APA format. It will be graded using the following criteria:
cover page and abstract
key components
a. type of organization (profit/non/profit or governmental)
b. history and evolution of the organization
c. vision/mission/goals/objectives (strategic plan)
d. organizational structures
e. management and leadership style
f. human resources (division, staff or management)
g. characteristics of clients served ( age, race/ethnicity, gender,
religion, etc.)
h. funding sources (fund-raising strategies or staff?)
i. public relations (marketing strategies or staff? )
j. stakeholders – decision-makers’ participation
k. adequacy of technical resources and system (facilities,
equipment, computer technology, and information management
overall effectiveness as a social service agency: strengths and weaknesses
suggestions for better organizational operation
references and appendix/dices (brochure, strategic plan, budget sheet, website, organizational chart, or relevant printed information about the organization)
Each group will provide a 20-25 minute Power Point presentation (submitted separately) with more than 10 slides regarding the analysis/findings. Students are to prepare a professional presentation that provides an overview of their findings. The PPT presentation file should be sent to the instructor for posting on the Canvas Discussion Board for all classmates. Specific guidelines will be provided.
