Purpose of Assignment
1. To understand how social marketing tools such as infographics can help to promote
awareness that brings attention to anti-oppression issues, by providing key
educational information that can challenge myths and stereotypes.
Process of Assignment
In this assignment, each student is asked to identify ONE stereotype about a
marginalized group in Canadian society.(the marginalized group i wrote about in the previous assignment are the REFUGEES ) ( Human rights issues facing the refugees in canada )
This could be a stereotype that you identified in your previous assignments or in content
and material shared throughout and/or are related to the themes and concepts of the
course. It would be a good idea to consult the professor to make sure that you chosen a
correct stereotype since this is crucial.
After selecting your myth, you will need to do research that will be used to debunk the
stereotype/myth. This means incorporating sources that are Canadian, credible, current
and relevant such as government statistics, government/community reports, academic
sources, materials from the course, media, reputable websites, etc. (No Wikipedia, or
random non academic websites). Please note that not all information from the US is
applicable to Canada (e.g. Statistics and legislation).
Important reflections to help you frame your infographic1
It is essential to consider on why you are choosing this stereotype:
 Why is this issue important to you? It is vital to be very conscious about your
social location with respect to the group and stereotype you have chosen (are
you part of the group? Are you an ally?).
 When working on any kind of educational material, we need to identify, who the
audience/target for this tool? Is it the group itself or is it the community at large?
Who needs to know about this? Why is it important to get your message to this

The infographic should contain the following:
1. ONE stereotype
2. The counter message to the stereotype
3. Research that supports the counter messaging
4. A visual presentation (photo, layout, table, chart etc.): The presentation should
be conceptualized and created by you. If using images, please provide image
descriptions using Alt text and that are copyright free. Citations are required for
all images.
5. In-text citations and reference list citations (or footnotes) must be included in
the infographic
