Discuss the reasons for and against premise

Words: 287

Paragraph 1: Offer a brief introduction to the topic. Avoid clichés like “since the dawn of time, philosophers have wondered…” This is a waste of precious words. (Anyway, time is infinite in both directions and so has no dawn.) Dive right in. Also, it is probably a good idea to say here what your ultimate conclusion will be.
Paragraph 2: Reproduce the argument exactly as it appears here (including the numbering and the indentation).
Paragraph 3: Define any technical terms that occur in the argument, or that provide necessary background. Do not define ordinary words if you can avoid it. (Unless there is an ambiguity that is relevant to your overall argument, you can avoid it.) Some words not to define include ‘true’ and ‘always’. Some words that would need definitions include ‘emotivism’, ‘logical contexts’, and ‘knowledge by acquaintance’. Also, examples are important, but an example is not a definition. A definition of a term has to apply to all and only things that the term applies to. This is also the place to discuss any defects in the logic of the argument. (All of the arguments below are logically valid, but it’s conceivable that some contain informal fallacies like equivocation.)
Paragraph 4: Discuss the reasons for and against premise 1. Clarify what it says if true.
