Writing Assignment
Assess the major considerations, factors and actions to respond to and recover from this very public and “news-frenzied” outage. The following points should be addressed in an executive summary report based on your analysis of the contributing factors, recommended response actions and mitigation strategies proposed. Your analysis and recommendations should include the following.
1. Objective assessment and risk estimation of the current situation(s) in May through August 2022. What did the outage cost them?
2. An analysis of what happened and key gaps or mistakes that could have mitigated the crises. What was the root problem(s) and misteps?
3. Recommendations and planning to respond to and recover from any similar, future critical outages and/or crises i.e. overcome identified problems.
4. Changes to overall strategy and risk planning for the CEO, CTO and other key stakeholders.
5. Look back and assess what VyStar has additionally done since acquisition to rebuild its reputation and confidence in its customer base.
Your executive summary should be 3 pages, single-spaced with one-inch margins not including references/bibliography, cover page, etc. You may anticipate your reports to be shared with VyStar leaders as well as other key stakeholders in the company. While that might lead you to think your summary should have a general positive perspective, your reporting and analysis should objectively present the key issues, requisite changes and recommendations as part of a holistic response and long-term “transformational” strategy.
