Write a project paper describe a specific
change in policy that you think will benefit the
population experiencing a social problem. The
policy change you propose could be a significant
change in procedures, an enhancement of
existing services, a key legislative initiative, or
establishing a new service source (an agency)
Use the following headings for each section
Section 1
Choose a particular social issue for a rural area with
which you are familiar. Describe the issue and why
you think it is a significant social problem. In doing so
address: ‘The social cost (Not limited to a monetary amount
but can include delayed access to work, occupations,
increased issues of mental health etc. Here you can
make a case for why you think the social issue is a
social problem. Any moral imperative (what ought to be done
because it is the right thing to do, especially
considering social justice)
Section 2
Make a clear statement about what the policy
change will be. The change can be at any level of
government or administration. What should be
done, by who and when. Be specific as you can.
Section 3
Why do you think your ideas will work better than
current policy. What theories do you use and what
are your hypotheses (there is a difference …theories
provide the reason behind why the hypotheses will
work.
1.Hypotheses are usually in the form :”if we do
then B will happen”
2. Theories explain why the hypotheses will turn out
that way
Be sure to explain how the theory you identify enters
into the hypotheses and supports them.
Section 4
How will you know if your policy change works as
intended.
Remember to have an outcome measurement to use
in finding out if your proposal works.
For this describe the change you would expect to
see in the outcome measurement. How will that
outcome change?
What criteria will you set for a success. For
example what % change in your outcome
measurement would be considered successful.
