After reading Chapter Seven of your book, you should be able to engage in the following activity.
Role models and mentors are important resources for young adults either contemplating career goals or starting out in their first job. A great deal of attention is given to the notion of role models in the popular media. Social learning theory supports the idea that many of our behaviors are learned through observation and imitation.
Activity:
Identify the characteristics of individuals likely to serve as role models. Be specific about a developmental situation; seeking career advice; modeling sexual practices; choosing a college major; finding a dating partner, etc.
Why are particular individuals more likely to become role models?
Write a couple paragraphs as to why you hold your views, and why you responded to these questions the way you did. What factors have YOU experienced that sway your thinking?
I expect paragraphs to be 5-6 sentences in length. I expect sentences to be informational and deal with the subject matter. Think before you write.
