A software developer is leaving your organization which happens to be a small software development company. In the employee’s exit interview, they describe feeling like an outsider. Specifically, the employee cites that due to their race and ethnicity, they just felt excluded from decision making, input, and direction on key elements of a new software program. The employee is highly skilled; however, they are actually taking a pay cut to join an organization they feel is more supportive overall. This is the third exit interview this year that has produced the same information. As head of HR for this company, you feel an obligation to take further action.

characteristics and type of workplace culture you want to see
in the organization.
The threat to the organization should they not remedy their
workplace culture.
Consider how you will gather more information regarding staff
perceiving a lack of inclusion.
Address how you will you translate these perceptions to
actionable steps the organization can take
State your proposed methods to remedy the situation through:

Training.
Culture assessments and meeting with personnel you
feel may have experiences feeling isolated and are still
with the company.
Discuss what the CEO can do to support your efforts
Describe the type of behaviors and actions you want to help
remove from the workplace that led to perception of a lack of
