I did China for the last assignment but you can do a new one if you want.
It should be one page long without the table.
Everything you need is in the instruction.
Fertility situation in your country.
Using the country from your last assignment (or a new one if you want), go to the Census Bureau’s International Data Base website. For this country, find the following fertility indicators for a year as close to the present as possible and then approximately 20 years prior to that year:
a) crude birth rate (might be under “vital stats”);
b) age-specific fertility rates (use 5-year intervals e.g. 15-19, 20-24, etc);
c) total fertility rate.
If the data is missing for your country, pick another country.
Then find the same pieces of information for the U.S. in 2023 only.
Your write-up of these data includes two parts:
1) a discussion of the 20-year trends in fertility statistics in your country;
2) a comparison of the current situation in your country and the U.S.
You must include a table, handwritten if legible or typed, in which you display the CBR and the TFR by country and by year (you do not need to list the ASFRs in the table). You should also plot the age-specific fertility rates, using EXCEL, Powerpoint, or graph paper. It is easier to think about and describe the pattern of age-specific fertility rates when you plot them as we have done in class.
Discuss what might explain the pattern of change or the lack of change you see? It is OK to speculate, but have the speculation informed by what you have learned in the course. This discussion should be concise. One page should be sufficient. In your discussion do not use vague terms like the “fertility rate.”
