Listening is influential in the interpersonal communication process. Effective communication cannot occur without intentful listening. This week we focus on language and listening in interpersonal relationships. We will discuss concepts of listening in our discussion this week. Answer the prompt below.
1. What responsibility do communicators have to listen as carefully and thoughtful as possible to other speakers? Are there ever cases where poor listening habits are justified? How would you feel if you knew that others weren’t listening to you?
2. Define pseudolistening, stage hogging and defensive listening. Explain when these types of listening can occur in interpersonal settings. Discuss how these types of listening impact interpersonal conversations.
