excitement, however, has the power to impact others negatively. The text states, “how we perceive and think about a person,
or an event depends on its social context.”
Over the last year notable events have surfaced, creating perceptions that has divided the country. Most of this information
were presented through media platforms (news/social media/ gossip sites). For example, events such as Brittany Griner is
detainment in Russia, Will Smith slaps Chris Rock at the Academy Awards after Rock made a joke about Smith’s wife, then w
inning best actor award, recent abortion laws, Elon Musk purchasing Twitter, Gunman kills 19 students and two teachers at
Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas and lastly, President Biden announces plan to cancel student loan debts up to
$20,000. Each creating a variety of perceptions and division. Incidents such as these create biases without obtaining all facts.
For this assignment, discuss and research current outlets you receive information. Is the information bias? What impact does
social media have on your perception on high profile occurrences? Does this perception create dislike for individuals with
difference of stance than yours? Why?
