Privilege has to do with your needs being met without demands. When meeting those needs is conditioned repeatedly by possessing social positions such as a certain race, class, gender, and other forms of difference, it shows that privilege is also systemic. Davis, McIntosh, and Crosley-Corcoran address those issues by discussing white privilege as a result of white supremacist thinking and actions and its intersections with class. In our previous discussions, hooks reminds us that white supremacist thinking, the violent belief that whiteness is “naturally” in power, can be internalized by anyone; the same way that she reminds us that anti-racist and anti-sexist critical thinking and work can also be done by anyone.
Assignment:
Discuss at least one example of white privilege from one of those texts and you can also suggest one way to dismantle the effects of the beliefs that led to such an experience of privilege. You can also contextualize your post with a self-reflection or other examples from the world that you have witnessed.
