Write a paper demonstrating an understanding of each of the three sociological theories (symbolic interaction therory, conflict theory, and functionalist theory) described in the learning resources. Utilize the Written Assignment Rubric to guide you as you develop your paper. Analyze the following social issue from the lens of each theory and respond to the following:
Social Issue:
An individual who is homeless sits with a collection cup on the sidewalk you pass on your way to work every day. Consider this person’s situation (how might they have become homeless, what individual or social issues may have preceded it, etc.), the issue of homelessness in general, and how you might choose to respond to this person (ignore, give money, converse, give resources, etc.).
Briefly compare and contrast how one might consider the housing issue of homelessness from each of the three theories.
What conclusions can you draw, and how could you use them to determine your behavioral response to the person? What response would you choose? Demonstrate your knowledge of each theory and your ability to analyze and apply each theory to justify your decision.
Which perspective makes the most sense to you? Why? Use examples from your learning resources and your own examples.
