For this assignment you will write an introduction draft. You will be writing your scientific paper over the Cell Transport experiment in Lab 5: Microscopes and Cell Transport.
Use the references and SOCS from the research/writing/references assignment you did to help you compose the Introduction draft attatched in files. You can find the Introduction Rubric attatched also
1. Start by discussing your topic very broadly and then narrow your focus down from general information to the specific purpose of your paper. Introduce the topic of your paper/research to your reader (3-5 sentences)
2. Discuss critical information about the topic: What does prior research say about your topic? You must include information from at least 3 different peer reviewed sources. (3-5 sentences about each source)
3. Identify gaps in knowledge: What aspect of the topic has not been studied before? This is where you talk about why you are doing the experiment – essentially the “so what” part of your paper. (3-5 sentences)
4. State your purpose: Tell your reader why you are doing this experiment and what your hypotheses are. (3-5 sentences)
5. Include a reference section at the end of your paper with (at least) 3 peer reviewed sources that you cited in the introduction. You can have more but for this assignment you need at least 3. Make sure your references are in APA format.
Anytime you use another person’s ideas, words, figures, graphs, etc. you must give them credit. This is known as citing your sources. Failing to give credit to your sources is a form of plagiarism, therefore YOU MUST INCLUDE CITATIONS in APA format in your introduction. Make sure you include citations. While you may use the lab manual and your pre-readings for information, you do not need to cite these sources for this assignment. They also do not count as peer-reviewed sources. You may not use quotes in your scientific paper. Doing so will result in point deductions.
