Report of Your Interview with an Older Worker. To receive full credit for this discussion forum you must (1) respond to each topic that I post; (2) also reply to at least one comment or question posed by another member of class and (3) incorporate material from the assigned readings and Module 9 pages in your analysis of the issues.
Topic 1: Describe a bit about the older person you interviewed. How old are they? Where do they work? What challenges do they face in their employment setting? What do they believe are some of the myths about older workers? Be careful to protect the identity of the person by creating a pseudonym (fake name).
Topic 2: Some people believe that if there are not enough jobs to go around for everyone, it makes sense to encourage older people to retire and “get out of the way” to make room for the young. What are some arguments for and against this approach to older people in the labor force? What are the costs and benefits of encouraging or discouraging early retirement?
Topic 3: Based on your interview and your observation of family members or people you’ve seen in the workplace, what are the biggest problems middle-aged and older workers would face if they were forced to change jobs and go into a completely new field? What steps could be taken to make things easier for people?
