you should select a topic consistent with course content. Specifically, the student will:
o First select a physiological system to which they will focus (i.e., cardiovascular,
metabolic, neuromuscular, etc.).
o Next, the student will identify a unique condition/disease afflicting that particular
system. Although not all systems have yet been covered in the lectures, students are
free to assess the material scheduled for later in the course by reviewing those
selected chapters in the course textbook.
• The student will then identify 3 original, peer-reviewed publications on that chosen disease
that addresses a specific aspect. The original, peer-reviewed publication CANNOT be a
literature review, systematic review, or meta-analysis. It must be a paper that reports the
results of a single research study (at least 2 of the 3 papers must have been published
within the last 10 years). Examples of a specific aspect of the disease include, but not
limited to:
o Assessing the effects of a unique type of rehabilitation protocol on symptom
mitigation.
o The effectiveness of a pharmaceutical agent on disease progression.
o Identification of the physiological mechanism responsible for the disease.
• In preparing the annotated bibliography, follow the guidelines at the following website:
o http://guides.library.cornell.edu/annotatedbibliography
NOTE: The examples outlined at the website above are rather brief. The summary of each
paper should be slightly longer thereby affording the students to provide a bit more detail on each
study. Each description should be approximately 150 words in length, double-spaced, 12 point
font.
