Before writing your final research paper you will need to develop some understanding about the topic
area that you will be researching by completing a research proposal. Writing a proposal is an efficient
approach to organize your thoughts and information on a topic relevant to the course material that
interests you. This process will help you build a rough idea of what your paper will look like. It also provides
you with an opportunity to receive feedback on your ideas before you begin to write the actual paper.
For this assignment you are required to submit a five to six (5-6) double-spaced page research proposal on any appropriate topic related to the field of administrative law or the administrative justice system in
Canada.
The research proposal must include the following:
• A topic of interest statement and potential research question(s).
• A preview of the methods, evidence and strategy that will be relied on to address the research question.
• A discussion of the relevance/significance of the proposed research.
• A discussion of how and where the research question is situated within the relevant literature.
• An annotated bibliography of at least five (5) relevant academic sources that serves as an indication of preliminary research.
Note: Situating the research question within the relevant literature involves a discussion of how the research contributes to or builds on existing bodies of work or responds to “puzzles” or gaps left unexplained or unexplored.
Format
• 5-6 double spaced pages not including the annotated bibliography. (The total page count including the annotated bibliography must not exceed 10 pages)
• Complete works cited page (APA format)
• Times New Roman 11.5 font, 1 ½ justified margins
• Numbered pages on bottom right-hand corner
• Title page (title, course name and code, first and last name, student ID, instructor’s name, date of submission)
