The Tattooed Soldier by Hector Tobar tells the story of two Guatemalan men whose past is intertwined and whose lives eventually collide when they meet in Los Angeles. The novel explores each of the man’s motivations as it recounts their acts leading up to one man’s revenge. On the surface, one man appears to be the aggressor and the other the victim. For the next essay, you must compare and contrast Antonio Bernal and Guillermo Longoria and respond to the following question.
1. Which of the two characters embodies evil the most and why? Consider each of the characters’ motivation, intentions and actions. Think critically about what drives them to commit the acts that they commit and whether or not they feel any remorse. Analyze the quotations that you provide as evidence and explain how they support your main point and claims.
