Write an essay analyzing two scenarios using a firms code of conduct

Words: 493
Pages: 2
Subject: Uncategorized

For this Midterm paper, you will be learning about how to navigate ethical dilemmas in the workplace by using the code of conduct for a firm. Imagine you work for Carmax and you have encountered a couple of ethical dilemmas at work. Explain how you would go about addressing these issues.

Scenario 1. You work for a part of the firm that involves billing customers for hours worked. You often complete a work task at different times (e.g., 1 hour and 36 minutes, 2 hours and ten minutes) and your manager says that you should ‘round up’ to the next hour. You are not sure if this is the correct way to handle the situation.

Scenario 2. Everyone from work went out for drinks to celebrate a coworker’s birthday. The day after, you look at the videos you recorded at the bar and you notice one of the managers getting very close to your coworker in the video. The manager seems drunk and appears to sway towards your coworker and your coworker flinches.

Analyze the TWO scenarios above. Using Carmax’s code of conduct, answer the following questions:
1. What relevant guidance does your firm’s code of conduct provide for the scenarios? Is the guidance sufficient? Rate the quality of the guidance from poor to excellent.
2. What level of cognitive moral development seems to be reflected in the code of conduct? Provide 2 examples to support your point.
3. Does the code of conduct address any biases or heuristics?
4. Do you feel comfortable following the code of conduct? What would be your preferred approach to handling the situation?

WRITTEN ANALYSES

The paper should be 2 page single-spaced and 12 point font.

Papers will be graded based upon the persuasiveness of the analyses, knowledge of course concepts, and the quality of writing. A persuasive analysis entails a full grasp and application of the concepts (e.g., cognitive moral development, heuristics) as well as good evidence from the code of conduct. This is a short paper so you should not insert long quotes.

All information that is not common knowledge needs citations at the end of the sentence. You must cite any reference to websites at the end of the sentence. If you use more than 3 words in a row from a source, make it a direct quote with quotation marks. Paraphrased sentences do not need quotation marks, but they do require citations. If your grandma doesn’t know something, it isn’t common knowledge so insert a cite.
