Assignment Guidelines:
1- Identify a local ecosystem, neighborhood, or community that you have lived in or are familiar with. Keep in mind that you will be studying the same community for Assignment 2, which focuses on mitigation (so find one that has impacts/adaptation and greenhouse gas emissions data available).
2- Collect secondary data from the published reports, for example from the Municipality/Region of Waterloo-Kitchener-Cambridge, Government reports, environmental sustainability reports, climate change, and adaptation reports, etc.
3- Based on your research produce a paper of 1800-2200 words (around 3-4 pages) focusing on the assessment of key climate change impacts and potential adaptation options.
4-Briefly describe the area of study (your selected community) demographically, socioeconomically, and environmentally.
5-Summarize two potential climate change impacts on human systems and two impacts on biophysical systems that evidence shows can be expected in this area.
6- Identify one adaptation option that might help this community respond to each impact (i.e., four adaptation options in total).
7-Conclude by linking this area to the broader national/global-level impacts of climate change. Is this area particularly vulnerable? Do you think that the community possesses the adequate adaptive capacity to respond to climate change?
8- Use photos, figures, and other media to enhance the readability of your assignment.
