1. Bartolome de las Casas and Alvar Nunez Cabeza De Vaca are more sympathetic to the plight of Native Americans than most other early settlers. Use specific examples from each man’s work to show how his attitude reveals such sympathy and understanding.
2. Summarize Jonathan Edwards’ main argument in “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God.” What is his thesis? How does he support it? What conclusions does he draw? Be specific.

4. Discuss similarities between the experiences of Benjamin Franklin and Olaudah Equiano. Are there qualities of character that both men share? Give examples from each man’s autobiography.
