A genre, according to the simplest definition, is a category of literature. This week, for example, we have read works from two genres: fairy tales and lyric poetry. Our source “Genre Function” suggests that blending genres “can reproduce social situations and activities.” This week’s reading demonstrates how society then viewed children and family structures.
