Question 2 – Lawsuits?: Some individuals have taken the movement of asking for apologies further and have sued corporations that still exist which profited from the slave trade. Firms such as the New York Life Insurance Company, the Wall Street investment firm Brown Brothers Harriman & Co and the Norfolk Southern Corporation have had such lawsuits filed against them. What is your opinion regarding such lawsuits? Do the descendants of slaves have a case for reimbursement? Should the profits these corporations acquired and used to build wealth be distributed in some way to the descendants of slaves? If corporations today are held accountable for injustices perpetuated against people and their descendants, could not the same be applied to the descendants of slaves?
