Within the past few hundred years, Native Americans have faced many issues such as Genocide, dislocation, discrimination, and abuse. All these negative factors lead to violence, poverty, and suicide on the Native Americans. Here are some of the improvements that I found in my research. Starting with the National Park Services, they help tribes protect resources and traditions that are important, and it mentions that the tribal heritage grants helps these tribes to preserve projects. A big issue is the loss of native American culture because of the lack of educational opportunities, mental health disparities, the impact from Historical trauma, and economic independence (CITE 1). Some of the Benefits that tribes can get now according to the U.S Department of the Interior state that “all American Indians and Alaska Natives whether they live on or off reservations are eligible to receive services provided by the state” these services can include TANF, SSI and LIHEAP (CITE2). This one article talks about education programs that will improve academic performances. In 1991 the us department of education set out a report for ‘Indian nations at risk’ , they followed up on those reports in 1992, and the executive order was signed by former president Clinton. ( CITE 3) The point of this is finding effective ways of educating native children and youth, they will design the system/ This next article discusses traces of history of policy development in the native American education system, just like before I talked about how former President Clinton signed that order and because of that this created the passage of no child left behind within the presidency of George Bush. The article also discusses interaction of political action, this helped these natives learn more about their culture and languages (CITE4). From this site they had a timeline of different events that occurred in history in 1995 The DOJ issues the tribal policy the department of justice issues this concerning government to government relations with tribes. In 1995 south Dakota challenged the secretary’s authority to gain some land back for the Brule Sioux tribe. In 1999 Supreme Court issues major off-reservation tribal hunting, fishing, and gathering rights decision The Indian Resources Section is frequently involved in litigation protecting tribes and the reservation treaty rights to hunt, fish, and gather, which is called usufructuary rights, the Chippewa retained rights on lands ceded to the United States in 1837 (CITE 5).
