This is the first Critical Response where you will be asked to construct an argument. This will require rigorous planning and forethought before you begin to write. Focus on the readings from Venturi and Scott Brown, paying particular attention to the theme of architecture’s desire to communicate with people, and the ambiguous—and sometimes playful—interpretations that occur. Read each carefully and synthesize them with concern for that theme. Then develop your own thesis and construct an argument based on your critical reading. The position you argue should be clear, and should unfold throughout your writing. Properly cite your sources.
