The introduction for this course:
“This course explores the achievements of human creativity, how these achievements express value and meaning, and how these are shaped by culture. Through reflective engagement with paintings, songs, stories, architecture, and other artistic artifacts from different cultures, you will expand your self-awareness and agility in the understanding of others, which will build intercultural competence for an increasingly global work environment. Course activities, including collaboration with others, will sharpen your problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
In this course, you’ll develop three skills that will help you adapt in a global world. They are:
• Problem-solving: You will examine art, literature, and music of other cultures to understand other people’s viewpoints.
• Relationship building: You will learn about societies across time periods and how collaboration was key to growth and survival.
• Self-awareness and social awareness: You will reflect and learn to manage your responses to new experiences to better understand those you encounter in your personal, academic, and professional life.”
I do not have a hero or anyone whom I idolized growing up. I have a French background. In the prior two assessments, I analyzed the paintings Pink Lilies by Monet and The Death of a Virgin by Caravaggio. I understand this assessment relies on the perspective of the writer.
