Instructions:
There are Two (2) required Essay Questions that you must answer completely and accurately. Do not bullet point your response. These should be well developed short essays responses—free from major grammatical errors. If you use direct quotes from any source, make sure you cite the source.
1)To accomplish this, you must support your points with specific examples from the course material.
2) Please do not summarize the material. You are synthesizing your points into a critical analysis to demonstrate your understanding.
3) The length of your response will vary because you all have different styles of writing. I imagine that each essay will be between 500-600 words to completely answer the question.
4) Use which ever formatting style you have been taught to use by your discipline.
Essay #1 –
At the beginning of the course, we were introduced to the theoretical approach of Medical Anthropology. We learned that Singer used this perspective to interrogate the connections between environmental health and human health. Furthermore, CMA (Critical Medical Anthropology) presupposes that political, economic, and social inequality exists in our society and then asks how inequality is constructed and how has it historically affected and presently harming marginalized groups of people.
Discuss at least two (2) specific examples from the course material (textbook, documentary, lecture video clips, FFAC lecture) that demonstrate the connection between ecobiosocial processes and the environmental injustice human or animal communities experience. Essay #1 (100pts)
Essay # 2 –
Collectively, our textbook, documentaries, and class discussions have interrogated the historical development of Black, Indigenous, and Poor People of Color (BIPOC) neighborhoods unjustly overburdened with environmental degradation, resource scarcity, and harmful exposure to both toxic chemicals and air pollution.
Discuss at least two (2) specific examples from our readings, lectures and/or videos that demonstrate how the disproportionate burden of health disparities disadvantaged communities bear are forms of structural violenceEssay # 2 (100 pts)
