Write a brief commentary (a minimum of 200 words) on the online lecture posted in “Weekly Notes”. The commentary should be based on your own reflections. As such, it is intended to express your own authentic and autonomous voice – a voice that an ethicist depends on for the purpose of engaging in analysis and assessment.
Needless to say, the more controversial a particular ethics issue, dilemma or challenge is, the more difficult it may be to engage in the debate and dispute simply because of the nature of the issue, dilemma or challenge (cf. controversial).
In this assignment, there are no “right” or “wrong” responses. For the same reason, this assignment earns you full credit as long as you submit your commentary by the deadline. The only criteria are (1) academic relevancy (that your commentary addresses biomedical ethics) and (2) numerical adequacy (that you do not write less than 200 words). The 200 words are constitute the lower word limit; the upper word limit is 500 words.
You can use your voice in many ways, from taking sides to making observations. It is up to you as a commentator to decide if you want to write a brief commentary that is about fact-finding (the descriptive aspect) or about criticism, best practices or recommendations (the normative and evaluative part), or a commentary for the purely theoretical or conceptual aspect, or a commentary that draws attention to a context or a problem that is not accommodated, in your opinion.
When you write your brief commentary, imagine you are a member of an Ethics Committee or Commission… and it is now your turn to say something.
