Background: The original Homestead Act of 1862 allowed many
Americans the opportunity to claim an independent way of life in the
Western United States. The act originally offered land opportunities to
women and immigrants and by 1866 offered opportunities to African
Americans as well.

Introduction: For this assignment, you will write an essay explaining
your position regarding the above quote. It must be at least 250 words
and should:
