This class has been more than thoughtful and interesting. Coming into this class i thought it would be extremely difficult just like a normal accounting class. I have been amazingly surprised to see how well paced this class has been. Im not a math person, so I definitely enjoyed the fact that there was not so much math problems. My favorite subject was probability and hypothesis using two / one sample. These two are subject that we can use not only academically and in real life. Without even noticing we have been using them on a daily basis. I personally realized when learning it in this class. I definitely rate this class a 10/10.

I can not end this discussion without giving a shout out to our professor, M. Prakash. Frankly speaking I have never had such a professor in my entire academic life. M. Prakash is just everything and more that a student need in a professor. He is always very kind, patient, helpful and truly cares about his profession and us! Thank you for this cool semester! I truly enjoyed having him as a professor and I appreciate how approachable he’s been. School can get pretty stressful, but he has managed throughout this semester to make it easy for all of us!! Thank you guys for your well thought discussion posts, it has been a pleasure to learn from your perspective. I wish you all the best of luck and hope to share another class with you guys again!

Happy holidays!

Hello Class,

This week is wrapping up and so is this course and I feel that I have learned some valuable principles from this class. Before the semester started I thought I had a pretty good idea of what terms like mean, median and mode were but in reality I only knew part of what they do and represent. During week 4 I feel there were some basic yet important concepts that we were exposed to and I wanted to summarize a bit about some of them.

Measures of location of data are used to describe the position of a data set in relation to the rest of the data. Quartiles and percentiles are two of the most common measures of location. Quartiles divide a data set into four equal parts, with the first quartile (Q1) representing the lowest 25% of the data, the second quartile (Q2) representing the middle 50% of the data, and the third quartile (Q3) representing the highest 25% of the data. Percentiles divide a data set into 100 equal parts, with the first percentile (P1) representing the lowest 1% of the data, the second percentile (P2) representing the lowest 2% of the data, and so on.

Measures of the center of data are used to describe the central tendency of a data set. The three most common measures of the center of data are the mean, median, and mode. The mean is the average of all the data points in a data set, and is calculated by adding up all the data points and dividing by the number of data points. The median is the middle value of a data set when the data points are arranged in order from least to greatest. The mode is the most frequently occurring value in a data set.

Measures of the spread of data are used to describe the variability of a data set. The three most common measures of the spread of data are the variance, standard deviation, and range. The variance is a measure of how far each data point is from the mean. The standard deviation is the square root of the variance, and is a measure of how much the data points vary from the mean. The range is the difference between the highest and lowest values in a data set.

As I keep working towards my Industrial Technology I feel this course may be of great assistance since I want to work within the logistic side of business. I hope everyone also took something valuable from this course!

Regards,

-Marcos

Throughout the past eight weeks while doing each topic discussion it has become much more noticeable that the topics we have talked over are seemly applicable to countless amounts of interactions. Each week I would scan through each chapter that was assigned for that week and nearly anytime I decided to brainstorm over a certain topic I was always able to relate the topic back to my past work experience. I intern at steel making company during winter and summer breaks, most of my responsibilities varied from doing handling smaller operations, working on projects which varied, and typically doing crew work to be able to collect data and learn the process. Most of all the instances that I connected to those topics were not things I saw and decided to speak over but duties I was conducting on a day-to-day basis. While working in such tough conditions and being my age, I would tend to think that most of what I am going to and already learning in my college classes won’t be exactly too useful while working in a place like this and doing the work that I was doing. But one thing I truly appreciate about this class is how it opened my eyes to the fact that I was completely wrong about that. Because of this I imagine in the future I will be able to relate my work back to classes to possibly serve a better understanding and to create a better plan or approach by using these resources.
