1. Write a formal business letter applying for the student pilgrimage. Remember many people are applying for this opportunity, you need to make a convincing argument that you should be chosen, i.e. why you? Background TEXT(S) or other sources that you discover on your own might be helpful. You should show some understanding of Franciscan values and the role they play or could in your life. You should discuss past experiences/achievements as well as future personal, career, community, or academic goals that relate to the purpose of the pilgrimage. Guidelines re: writing a basic business letter and info re: the pilgrimage can be found under RESOURCES. Be sure to address the letter to a particular, and the correct, individual.
2. Write a 1-page memo (guidelines as previously) proposing a particular event or lecture or initiative that you would like to see take place during next year’s St. Francis & St. Clare week, either at the college or elsewhere (church, workplace, community center, school, etc.). As above, imagine the organization you are proposing to will receive many proposals, make yours the one that gets chosen, i.e. make it new, different, exciting, etc.; make it detailed and specific re: what, how, and why.
