Write a 3-4 page single spaced essay in which you explore the following question:
What is your idea of “political economy” as it relates to what you’ve learned in class thus far?
Requirements:
• You should use both historical and contemporary examples to explore the question.
• Include a thesis. You must make a clear statement that defines “political economy” and threads your understanding of it through both historical and contemporary ideas.
• Carry your thesis through the essay and include a clearly defined conclusion.
• There is not any single correct answer for such an essay. Rather, it is based on your ability to think through the idea of “political economy” and apply it to what we’ve been discussing in class.
• You must include sources/quotes that we have read in class, you have read for your Bib. 1, or that we have discussed in class. The course Power Points may also be utilized.
• You must cite your sources in two different ways.
1) Within the essay. When using a source/quote in the essay, simply place a parenthesis and the author’s name or the article title if there is no author name. (Warshauer). – or – (“The Panic of 1819”) – or – (Power Point 1, Slide 12). This is MLA style format.
2) Include a Bib. with the sources you’ve used for the essay. The Bib. should be properly formatted. We’ve been over this. Every bit of formatting and punctuation counts. – The Bib. should appear on its own page, after the essay. Thus don’t have it follow immediately after the last paragraph. Tab down to a new page. Under no circumstances should you include the Bib. as a separate document.
• Times New Roman, 12 pt font.
• Save file title as: Last Name Midterm. Ex. Warshauer Midterm
• All files should be sent as an attached Word doc via email. Do not send a link.
• Limit your essay to a max of 4 pages. Blathering on doesn’t get you more points. Like your Bib. entries, this is about writing concisely and clearly.
• Midterm is due anytime on Friday, March 10.
