Our course includes a Final Paper, due the final week of class. In order to prepare for the Final Paper, you will need to begin researching now. At this time you will create your MLA-style works cited page to be used for your Final Paper. You are only submitting your MLA style works cited page this week.
For this paper, you will be researching the topic below. I have included the Research Paper assignment so that you are familiar with what you will be researching. Please review the information below.
For this assignment, you are only submitting your MLA style reference/works cited page. The resources below will assist you and show you how to create your reference page. You will then be using this reference page on your paper due during finals week, so keep it handy as it will be the final page of your actual research paper.
You should use a variety of sources from across the provided resources. You must use at least 4 reliable sources for this paper.
All sources used must appear in a Works Cited page, which is the final section of your Final Paper.
All sources used will need to be properly cited using in-text citations according to MLA formatting. This includes any quotations, any paraphrasing, and any ideas brought directly from sources.

Final Paper, MLA Style Research Paper
Topic: The Final Paper asks you to discuss the idea of impeachment in the United States Constitution and how it has been used in American history. You will look at the impeachment of Andrew Johnson and examine how it relates to the impeachment of Bill Clinton. The purpose of this topic is to have you draw on an incident from the historical past, Andrew Johnson’s impeachment, and use it to help understand an incident from a more recent time, Bill Clinton’s impeachment.
Your Final Paper will look at this topic through researched documents and all classroom materials. You will be asked to examine how the topic impacted its own time and how it impacts the events of today. Your Final Paper will be centered around a thesis for this topic. You can take any approach to this topic in your Final Paper that works within the information in the course and the sources you have researched.
Resources: The following resources are provided to help you with writing your Final Paper:
. Essay Survival Guide
a. Understanding essays
b. Interpreting the question
c. Researching and reading critically
d. Developing your ideas
e. Writing critically and structuring your essay
f. Editing and reviewing
The essay will need to be at least 650-900 words long. Please do not exceed 975 words, for my timely grading purposes. Any essay shorter than 650 words will be penalized.
Guidelines for format:
You need to have an introductory paragraph that has a clearly stated thesis. This thesis should shape your entire essay and needs to be something that you can prove using the evidence provided.
Your Final Paper will be centered around your thesis that identifies several specific ways in which you can prove that thesis. You can take any approach to this topic in your Final Paper that works within the information in the course and the sources researched by you. You need to have a conclusion on your essay that brings your thesis to a close and shows how you have proven your argument.
Your writing needs to be clear of writing errors, grammatical errors, and spelling errors. You are expected to submit writing that is appropriate for a college course. I suggest using a free, online program such as Grammarly to check your work for errors.
Guidelines for sources and evidence:
You can (and are expected to) use the following sources for your essay:
The textbook and course materials.
Scholarly, or reputable/reliable sources that you acquire through research. DO not use WIKIPEDIA as a source.
I suggest using various American History Smithsonian websites, academic websites, or even museums (specifically the Presidential Museum resources for both of these Presidents.)
The following sites may be used along with others in your research.
Clinton Presidential Center – Clinton Foundation
Andrew Johnson National Historic Site (U.S. National Park Service) (nps.gov)
Andrew Johnson – Presidential Libraries, Museums, and Sites – Mercyhurst University Libraries at Mercyhurst University
Knowing the Presidents: Andrew Johnson | Smithsonian Institution
