Your Task:
This essay requires that you identify and evaluate the assumptions of a reading of your choice from Unit 2. You should write a response to the selected reading, joining the author’s conversation by adding to it, contradicting it, and supporting the author’s argument with other credible sources and opinions. The assignments call for you to read critically, annotate, reflect, and question the article of your choice. You should read like an investigator and use your own experiences and beliefs to guide your response. Your task will be to draw a conclusion reached via Inductive Reasoning, making a generalization in the form of a thesis statement claim. After you have formed a solid response and added points of your own, you should look for other authors who can contribute to your response, agreeing or disagreeing, adding to, or adding information to take your ideas to a new understanding. You will be graded on how well you create a response to the article of your choice from Unit 2 and on how well you integrate other sources into your response to validate your claims and questions. You should be able to explain the connection between any source brought into your paper and the essay you have chosen to write a response for. This assignment calls for you to enter an academic conversation and make an impressive contribution, using a persuasive generalization that is convincing and logical.

You should have clear thesis that is a response to the author of your choice.
Your essay should show that you have read carefully and critically and that you have a clear idea of the author’s points of view.
You should source integrate and be able to explain how all the sources connect to produce synthesis.
Outside sources should be vetted to determine the authenticity and appropriateness for an academic essay.
Your essay should have an engaging introduction, a middle section and a conclusion that offers a reflection of the author’s idea and your point of view.
Set up your paper using MLA documentation and cite your sources within the essay and with a Works Cited page at the end.
You will need to identify your audience and purpose and be able to discuss the context for which you are creating this essay. Why is it important that you write this response?
