Checkpoint 1:
Come up with a topic end of class (1 point)
Checkpoint 2:
Come up with an example problem (must be different than other people’s) with analysis of z score, continuity correction, and the corresponding area under the normal curve shading, and signed by me (3 points)
Checkpoint 3:
Come up with at least 1 paragraph on both how this would relate to your disciplinarian and the ethical issues that come up. (3 points)
Checkpoint 4:
Powerpoint/Poster of your project. (3 points)
Chapter 5 Project
The goal of this project is to see how systems of equations are utilized in everyday life.
1. Reflect on the usage Standard Distribution through ONE of the following lenses:
– Think like an entrepreneur or business or marketing team
2. Research how this disciplinarian might use and view this concept in their work. With this information, create a hypothetical situation (word problem) involving that relates to your disciplinarian. Try your best to make the data points seem as reasonable and realistic to your context as possible.
3. Focus the following applications of Standard Distribution:
a) Binomial Distribution
4. Interpret the meaning behind the solution to your example. In addition, interpret the overall impact standard deviation has on your disciplinarian (1-2 paragraphs, typed). Here are some questions that might guide your analysis:
a) What are the consequences if there is a miscalculation? What are the ethical concerns, if any?
b) How could the disciplinarian’s outcome change based on the decisions they make from the system?
c) Are there certain groups of people that might benefit from the decision over others? Explain how parts of the system might affect people differently.
5. Present this information (title with which disciplinarian chosen, word problem, solution with graph and calculations, 1-2 paragraph analysis, etc.) on either a POSTER or in a POWERPOINT PRESENTATION. You may have to present your project to the class, so make sure to give this project your very best effort!
Point distribution:
Reasonableness in equation creation: 10 points
Accuracy in mathematical calculations: 10 points
In-depth analysis of system: 10 points
Neatness/ Organization: 10 points
Total: 40 points
