A citizen posts a sign on her front lawn that advocates deporting anyone whose family members had arrived in the United States after 1980, because “they are not real Americans.” The sign prompted angry protests in the neighborhood with the sign eventually being stolen. The citizen has told the police she will put up a new sign as soon as she finds enough paint to make it even bigger. The police are concerned that the new sign will almost certainly result in a riot. Should the police be able to compel the citizen to keep her lawn free of the sign? Why or why not? (Remember that this question will touch on “freedom of speech” issues that should be discussed). Use material from the textbook to help you answer this question. Cases from the textbook would be helpful.
Please answer the questions fully. Your goal should not be to answer this question as briefly as possible. I would expect a good answer to be in excess of 400 words. Your response to this post is worth 30 points. Please include a word count at the end of your response. Good responses that receive high marks will always include the following:
1. Proper spelling and grammar (use spell check), and punctutation.
2. Paragraphs- each new idea should be in a different paragraph-a good answer cannot be one, long paragraph.
3. Use complete sentences.
4. Make sure you answer all the questions-especially if I ask “WHY”.
5. Use examples from the textbook to support your answers- tell me the page or section from the book that you got your information.
6. Word Count- tell me how many words are in your answer. If the majority of your paper is copied form the textbook or another source then I want to see approximately 400 words written by you….not the author of the textbook.
