This is the final assignment of the 3 courses. The purpose of this project is to put what you have learned into practice,
including how all members of a family are effected by adversity and substance misuse, addiction and recovery, and
tools for helping children, youth, and their caregivers. The capstone assignment is your opportunity to investigate one
aspect of what you have learned in more depth in the context of your job or internship.
The capstone can be a paper, a powerpoint presentation, a video you recorded, a storyboard, or any way you can think
to tell the story of your project. Be creative! Your capstone should include an real-life application of concepts or tools
from the courses. Ideas for your capstone can include:
• An in depth profile of a child or young person you are working with, including a strengths assessment.
An example of how you used active listening with an individual or group and what the impact was.
• A family profile including a family systems assessment, a family timeline, or genogram.
• How you used some of the Trust Based Relational Intervention strategies with a child or youth and how it worked.
• The results of a focus group you conducted with youth or families around a particular topic related to the course
material.
• Your experience working with a youth who has a substance use disorder, including the unique needs and challenges
of this age group.
An analysis of the difference between what a care coordinator and recovery support worker do.
• A description of a case example of when you worked on a team with other systems (such as a school team or DCYF)
including an analysis of what worked and what didn’t work.
• An investigation of how your co-workers take care of themselves (or don’t) and your own personal self-care plan.
